Living The Gold Coast!
The Gold Coast
Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood offers living at its finest in the heart of the city. Originally settled by the 19th century elite, the Gold Coast still reflects the wealth and prominence of those individuals today, but exudes a high energy, reflective of the area’s modern trendsetters.
Real Estate in Chicago’s Gold Coast
Rich with legacy, the Gold Coast’s luster hasn’t faded in the last century. Million dollar brownstones, embraced by wrought-iron fences, line Dearborn Street, Elm Street and Banks Street, while historic mansions, including the original Playboy mansion, grace North State Parkway and Astor Street. The Gold Coast is also home to towering, luxury condominiums overlooking Lake Michigan , including the Elysian, which was recently purchased by infamous real estate mogul Sam Zell, the Park Hyatt and Water Tower Place to name a few. Chicago’s Goal Coast real estate is among the most sought after in the city and home to some of the Windy City’s most affluent and jet setting residents.
Chicago’s Gold Coast Neighborhood Life
The Gold Coast is rich with history, nightlife, fine dining and high-end shopping. The Public Chicago, the newest hotel from New York’s legendary Studio 54 creator Ian Schrager, along with the reinvented, historic Pump Room, has brought a piece of South Beach cachet to the north end of the Gold Coast on State Street. Notable restaurants include the award-winning Italian restaurant, Spiaggia, Asia inspired Nomi, and seafood hotspot Hugo’s Frog Bar and Fish House. The famous Division Street boasts a handful of popular nightlife fixtures in the Gold Coast including the likes of Butch McGuire’s, The Original Mother’s and the Lodge (late night spot). A few blocks south, tucked between State Street, Rush Street and Bellevue Street, is the “Viagra Triangle,” a vibrant area known for its people watching, Hip restaurants and bars, including the Famous Gibsons Bar and Steakhouse, Tavern on Rush, Carmine’s, Lux Bar and lets not forget the gritty Cedar Hotel (formally Melvin B’s)
Gold Coast Shopping and Entertainment
Oak Street is home to trendy boutiques and classic, upscale designers, including Prada, Barney’s of New York’s new flagship store, BCBG and Harry Winston. A few steps east from Oak Street, sits Michigan Avenue, Chicago’s shopping equivalent to 5th Avenue. The north strip of Michigan Avenue, known as the Magnificent Mile, houses fashion meccas with the likes of Bloomingdales, Michael Kors, Gucci and Water Tower Place. Oak Street isn’t only known for its shopping. After Chicago thaws from its chilling winters, residents take advantage of Oak Street Beach. Oak Street Beach is a thriving attraction in the Gold Coast during the summers for sunbathers, joggers and outdoor enthusiasts seeking an oasis on the sandy shores of Lake Michigan.
