This Award Winning Neighborhood is centered around its crown Jewel  “Lakeshore East Park”.  At a cost of $4 Billion dollars it is Located just south of the Chicago River, north of Randolph Street east of Michigan Avenue and west of Lake Shore Drive. Lakeshore East is an urban oasis developed and built by the Magellan Development Group. It’s in walking distance to the all the great things Chicago is known for including Michigan Avenue, Lake Michigan, State Street, Millennium Park, Grant Park and the financial District, home of the Chicago Board of Trade "CBOT", Chicago Board Options Exchange "CBOE" and the Chicago Mercantile . The scheduled completion of this urban development was to be in 2011 but it is now moved to 2013.

The Real Estate

The master plan involved gently integrating 21st century buildings into the existing canvas of the iconic structures of the 1960’s and 1970’s.  These include old timers such as Buckingham Plaza, Blue Cross Blue Shield Tower, Three Illinois Center, Harbor Point, North Harbor Tower, Swissotel Chicago and 400 East Randolph Street Condominiums. The new kids on the block include the likes of The Tides, Aqua, The Chandler, The Shoreham and The Lancaster. The Chandler and The Lancaster are condominiums, while the Tides and The Shoreham are apartment and retail buildings. The contemporary Aqua is a multi-use hotel/apartment/condominium complex designed by architect Jean Gang. It was the winner of the Emporis Skyscraper Award in 2009 for skyscraper of the year and shortlisted in 2010 for the biannual International High-rise Award. It currently is the tallest building in the world to have had a woman as the lead architect.  The master plan for Lakeshore East features some of the tallest buildings to be built in Chicago. Some of the buildings might even be the tallest buildings in the U.S. The Aqua alone is designed to be 82 stories high. The neighborhood spans 28 acres and to include some 4,950 residences, 1,500 hotel rooms, 2,200,000 square feet of commercial space, 770,000 square feet of retail space, an elementary school and the 6-acre botanical park. The buildings are inspired by Lake Michigan and the Chicago River, which is why their names have an aquatic theme. Lake Shore East is all about high-end apartments and luxurious condos cartering to the Hip and trendy that love Chicago.

The Magnificent Mile is an eight-block stretch that features more than four hundred stores including local and international brands. If you are more into luxury shopping, you can proceed to Oak Street where high-end designer brands are located. In terms of entertainment, Lakeshore East has got you covered. If you are looking for musicals and plays, the Chicago Theater is the place to go. If you are looking for music, you can try Lollapalooza, Lyric Opera of Chicago and Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
