3 New Chicago Bars to Consider for Watching This Year's Super Bowl

With the Super Bowl now just a couple days away, many are still scrambling to put together last minute plans for either hosting a watch party at home, or at one of the many sports bars, taverns, or local watering holes around Chicago. If you’re not one who likes to entertain or perhaps just prefer to spend Super Bowl Sunday out and about, there’s of course plenty of great spots to choose from in neighborhoods all over the city. In fact, every year around this time we try to feature some of the best places in Chicago to watch the Super Bowl, but this year, we’re going to try something new. Instead of featuring some of the same old places year in and year out, we thought it might be fun to list some great spots to catch the big game that are a little newer to the restaurant and bar scene in town. So, if you’re looking for an excuse to swing by some of the city’s hottest new bars and restaurants, there’s no better time to do so than on Super Bowl Sunday; and if you’re looking for some idea on where to go, here’s a quick look at 3 new places we recommend:

Headquarters Beercade River North

If you’re not terribly interested in the game itself and might want something to keep you occupied throughout what's usually a 4 hour game, there’s no better option than the recently opened Headquarters Beercade in River North. In addition to all the classic arcade and pinball games, they’ll also have a gourmet nacho buffet on-hand during the Super Bowl as well.

Tippling Hall

Full game sound and tons of food and drink specials are being offered during the Super Bowl at Tippling Hall—one of River North’s newest and most impressive late-night spots. Chicken Wings, St. Louis BBQ Ribs, Big Ass Super Beers, and Beer Buckets are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to great deals being offered during the game, and there's moret han enough room here for groups of all sizes

Kaiser Tiger

If you plan on watching this year’s Super Bowl with a small group, swinging by Kaiser Tiger for their 5-pound sausage and bacon wrap that will satisfy between 6 and 8 hungry football fans. In addition, the beer selection here is rock solid, while the food menu is even better. If you don't opt for the sausage-wrapped-in-bacon special, we hear the sandwiches at Kaiser Tiger really are among the best in Chicago.

Chicago's 10 Most Expensive Rentals Currently on the Market

With more than 3,800 new construction rentals expected to be delivered over the course of 2015, it’s safe to say Chicago’s luxury apartment market is as healthy as ever. Last year, super luxury rental buildings like 111 W. Wacker and 73 E. Lake were welcomed to the Loop market alone, while just one year prior, Streeterville added one of the most impressive lakefront buildings we’ve seen in years at 500 N. Lake Shore Drive.

Regardless of all the new construction however, downtown Chicago is still loaded with an array of lavish apartment units in buildings that, while may not be the newest to hit the market, are still as luxurious as anything you’ll find in the city. Trump Tower will almost always have a condo for rent that’s in the five-figure range, while other buildings like 50 E. Chestnut, Water Tower Place, and The Palmolive all have a reputation for being among the elite when it comes interior finishes, amenities, and rent prices. So before you settle on the new, remember to always check out what's available in some of downtown Chicago's classics, of which some are listed below.

111 W. Wacker Sold to Heitman, a Chicago-Based Global Real Estate Investment Firm

Despite 111 W. Wacker just opening last year, one of Chicago’s newest and most luxurious rental buildings already has a new owner. According to recent reports from the Wall Street Journal, Heitman, a Chicago-based global real estate investment firm, has purchased the 59-story, 504-unit building at 111 West Wacker from its original developer, Related Midwest, for a mind-blowing $328.2 million—or more than $650,000 per unit.To date, the reported transaction is the highest price ever paid per unit for an apartment building in Chicago that houses over 50 individual units, and it’s a clear-cut sign to many that the luxury market is alive and well here in the heart of downtown Chicago.Apartments for rent inside 111 W. Wacker typically range from $1,700 to $12,000 per month, but at a purchase price of over $328 million, it’s hard to believe the long-term plan for OneEleven is to remain a rental building. For now, the rental market, especially in downtown Chicago, is red hot and should stay that way over the short-term, but as the condo market picks back up and homeownership becomes popular again, we might just see a condo conversion over at 111 W. Wacker, with list prices likely averaging over $1 million.

Winter Moving Tips From Gold Coast Realty

In case you haven’t noticed, it seems the second we welcomed in 2015, winter, at least as Chicagoans know it, also settled in around the area—which for most of us, certainly isn't an ideal way to kick off what’s sure to be an exciting year ahead (we're already dreaming of living in a Florida condo)

Moving during any time of the year isn’t exactly fun, but moving during the cold season is about as unpleasant as it gets here in the Windy City. If you were lucky enough to get your move out of the way last month, you definitely lucked out, as it seemed to be one of the most mild Decembers any of us can remember.

On the other hand, if you're still facing a move sometime in the coming weeks, you’re likely in for a much tougher experience. But like most things, if you prepare and take all the necessary steps towards making a winter move as easy as possible, it might not be that bad after all. So before you load up that truck and begin your journey to a new and [hopefully] improved place, here are some winter moving tips you might want to consider that are sure to go a long way during what’s probably the worst time ever to relocate.

Make sure ALL your utilities will be turned on prior to moving

Although this may seem like a given now, forgetting to schedule utility service well before your move date is something that can easily slip through the cracks. Don’t take any chances and also make sure you get your service transferred well before your moving day. No heat or electricity is no way to spend your first night in a new place

Keep some warm drinks on-hand

It’s pretty common to have a bottled water or sports drink with you when moving on a hot summer day, right? Well, the same should apply for a winter move, although instead of something cold, keep some hot chocolate nearby or the coffee pot brewing. Although hot drinks won’t help you get all those boxes moved physically, they sure can keep you in good spirits, not to mention pretty warm as well

Stock up on cardboard and plastic

If there’s snow outside or if it’s just plain wet and muddy, the last thing you want to do is make a mess inside your new place as you’re moving in. Unpacking and arranging your furniture will surely take long enough, but when you have to clean up snow, salt, or mud on top of it, your moving day just became a whole lot worse. Protect your floors and lay cardboard out all over the place and thank us later for this little piece of advice.

Have a back-up plan

If there’s one thing about Chicago winters, it’s that they’re about as unpredictable as it gets. If a storm blows in and your moving company isn't on time or has to postpone the move, ALWAYS have a back-up plan in place. Speak to your landlord to see if you can stay an extra day or two, or have a hotel/motel in mind in case you’ll need somewhere to crash and ride out the storm.

Keep an emergency contact list with you

If you’re moving to Chicago from out of town, make sure to have a list of emergency phone numbers handy in case the worst happens. Roadside assistance, the highway patrol, and nearby friends, family, or colleagues are just a few ideas, but also keep your new landlord’s number on hand as well in case you need to re-schedule a move-in time or date due to unexpected travel issues.
