REPORT: Chicago's Next Supertall Tower Will Break Ground in Early 2019

Chicago’s next skyline-altering project is set to break ground as early as January, accordion to a recent report.

Called One Chicago Square, the supertall skyscraper is planned for a surface parking lot across from the Holy Name Cathedral in River North and is being developed by Chicago-based JDL Development and Sterling Bay.

If you’re still unfamiliar with One Chicago Square, the sleek, two-tower design is projected to include 869 rental units, luxury condominium residences, office space, and retail space that will feature a new Whole Foods Market and a massive, 100,000 square foot Life Time Athletic club.

The building’s stunning design is by Goettsch Partners and Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture, and when finished, the towers will stretch 654 and 1,011 feet respectively, making the taller of the two the Windy City’s sixth tallest high-rise.

Zoning changes for One Chicago Square were approved by the Plan Commission back towards the beginning of this year and financing for the project is close to being wrapped up as well, accordion to Crain’s.
