When you think of Chicago’s Magnificent Mile, images of high-end retailers and five-star restaurants are usually the first thing that come to mind. In fact, the last thing you might correlate Michigan Avenue with is a car dealership, but according to recent reports, luxury car maker Tesla Motors may be making its way to the Windy City’s most exclusive stretch of roadway, with talks of entrepreneur Elon Musk considering opening a flagship Tesla showroom inside the fabulous Park Hyatt Chicago.
If plans move forward, the new showroom at 800 N. Michigan Avenue would feature two levels with right around 10,000 square feet of space. Although a lease has not yet been finalized, the space in which Tesla would use is the old Giorgio Armani store inside the building, which recently moved over to Oak Street back in August.
According to Crain’s, other tenants are also possibly interested in the retail space at the Park Hyatt, including other car companies, but a definite occupant has still yet to be announced. Tesla first made its way to Chicago back in 2009 when opening a sales and service center on Grand Avenue over in River West, and since then, three other locations have opened in Chicago’s suburbs.
