Although Trump Tower Chicago was just completed in 2009, sales for the stunning 96-story structure at 401 N. Wabash started all the way back in 2003. And after what will be 11 years this coming September, only six developer units remain at this now-iconic downtown Chicago tower.
A report from Crain’s Chicago Business today documented that no other active condo project in Chicago has been in the marketing phase for that long, but Trump Tower certainly overcame strong adversity in the early-going. Nobody could’ve expected how tough times would get in 2008, 2009, and even parts of 2010, but despite seeing the poorest market conditions many of us have seen in our lifetime, Trump Tower Chicago prevailed.
Only half of the remaining 6 developer’s units are currently being marketed, as the other three are being used as models and the sales center. Of the three currently on the market, buyers have their choice between a 3,400 square foot two-bedroom on the 38th floor, a 2,022 square-foot two-bedroom on the 52nd floor, and of course the 14,000 square foot penthouse on the 89th floor—also known as downtown Chicago’s most expensive piece of real estate at $32 million.
Just this past week, crews began installing new 20-foot “Trump” letters on the side of Trump Tower, which may just act as the finishing touches on this extraordinary landmark that re-shaped Chicago real estate forever.
