An affordable new apartment development could be going in soon close to the Logan Square Blue Line. The proposed seven-story project recently gained approval from the Chicago Plan Commission. It now goes before the full city council for approval.

Described as a 100-percent affordable apartment project, plans call for half of the 100 rental units to go to CHA residents, while the rest are slated towards those earning at or below 60-percent of the area’s median income. Supporters of the project maintain the new apartments will fill a void for many residents at a time when low income, affordable housing in Chicago is said to be shrinking.

Along with the new apartments, the project additionally calls for some parking, a public plaza, a community room and some ground-level commercial space. Developers hope to break ground for the new apartments later this spring and deliver sometime in 2021.
