Another major West Loop / Fulton River District project is finally moving forward after being long-discussed and approved. According to a number of reports, Vancouver-based Onni Group is ready to break ground on a new apartment tower at 354 N. Union Avenue, a vacant parcel that lies immediately south of K2.

For now, it seems like plans call for the development to stand 32 stories high and include 373 rentals and 143 parking spaces. The glass design is pretty similar to what you’ll see in most new construction apartment buildings these days and renderings can be found over on Curbed Chicago.

Additional details about 354 N. Union still aren’t available but one rendering shows an outdoor swimming pool at ground level. And given the building’s size,

But that apparently hasn’t stopped a 2,400 square foot penthouse inside one of Chicago’s most iconic high-rises from sitting on the market for close to a year while also taking a series  of dramatic price cuts in the process.

According to a new report from INRIX, Chicago’s traffic whoas are only getting worse and locals are feeling the pain in both commute times and wasted economic opportunities.

Overall, the data estimates congestion costs every American nearly 100 hours and $1,400 a year. But in Chicago, those figures equaled 145 hours and $2,146 in 2019. Additionally, Boston was the only other city that had a worse congestion problem last year, while Philadelphia, New York City, and Washington DC rounded out the top 5.

As noted by INRIX, Chicago’s geography plays a role in congestion issues. The lake prevents the ability to re-direct traffic around the city to the east, and the cold winters often mean more people take shorter trips in the car once the weather breaks, as

Hundreds of new rental units are headed to West Loop. It’s all part of a massive new development going up near Mary Bartelme Park in Chicago.

The new Porte development consists of two 17-story towers, complete with nearly 600 new residences. Ranging from around around 550 square feet for a studio unit to more than 1,500 square feet, the project serves up a variety of floor plans for renters to choose from.

There are also some two-level townhomes available for rent in Porte. The rental buildings also offer such amenities as a fitness center, demonstration kitchen, game room and a lounge.
