Spring 2015 Events in ChicagoSpring is here, and the fun and excitement is blooming in Downtown Chicago.  Springtime is one of the best times to visit Chicago, with a large variety of festivals and events to fit your interests.

2015 NFL Draft

The clock is ticking on one of the most anticipated spring events for Downtown Chicago.  From April 30-May 2 football fans converge on Auditorium Theatre, Grant Park and Congress Plaza for the 2015 NFL Draft.  A number of fan-centric activities are planned, including some interactive ones.

Chicago Farmers Markets

If you’re in search of fresh fruits and veggies, look no further than the Chicago Farmers Markets.  Starting in May, more than 70 venders will set up shop, selling fresh produce, along with flowers and plants to help brighten your home.  You’ll find these markets located throughout the city.

Chicago Kids and Kites Festival

Early May also ushers in the Chicago Kids and Kites Festival.  Held in Lincoln Park, kids will have the opportunity to make and fly their own kites, plus there will be crafts, face painting and balloon artists on hand.  Perhaps the most anticipated of all, though is the Big Kite Candy Drop when a specially made piñata-style kite drops candy down from the sky.

The city’s street festival season kicks off in mid May with Chicago’s annual Mayfest.  Running from May 15-17, the event brings in live music and food.  This is the music festival’s 20th year.

Chicago’s Memorial Day Parade

Late May brings the annual Memorial Day Parade to Chicago.  Honoring our military heroes, the holiday parade heads down State Street, from Lake to Van Buren.

Summer Fireworks at Navy Pier

Memorial Day weekend is also the kickoff for summer fireworks at Navy Pier.  You can experience the sites and sounds of fireworks at the Pier each Wednesday and Saturday from May 23-September 5.
