Memorial Day is one of the best holiday weekends of the year. It’s the unofficial kickoff of summer, the weather is still somewhat mild, and it’s of course the perfect time to honor all those brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting our country’s freedom.
Nobody knows how to celebrate Memorial Day Weekend quite like us Chicagoans, and there’s no better way to kickoff the annual festivities than attending the nation’s largest Memorial Day parades in the Loop. But along with that, there’s usually a long list of events, activities, and things to do during the long 3-day weekend, and 2015 is certainly no different.
For our reader’s convenience, here’s a short list of things going on in Chicago over Memorial Day Weekend 2015, and if there’s anything you might be doing that you think we should add to the list, feel free to post a comment below in the comments section!
Hit The Beach
Beach season officially begins over Memorial Day Weekend, as all of Chicago’s downtown beaches open for the season. From Oak Street to Edgewater, there’s nothing quite like spending an afternoon on Chicago’s lakefront.
Belmont-Sheffield Music Fest
Enjoy your Memorial Day Weekend celebration by checking out some local bands, drinking some local beer, and enjoying the long-awaited warm weather at the Belmont-Sheffield Music Festival over at Sheffield and Belmont in Lakeview.
Bike the Drive
The only time of the year you’ll get to bike up and down the lakefront actually on Lake Shore Drive, the Bike the Drive event takes place every Memorial Day Sunday, and this year is no different. Ride as much or as little as you want from 5:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. All proceeds benefit the Active Transportation Alliance.
White Sox vs. Indians
Nothing quite says summer like taking in a baseball game here in Chicago and the White Sox will be taking on the division rival Minnesota Twins all weekend long. Friday’s game is a night game, while the two weekend games are both in the afternoon.
